From ideation to developing the concept to the actual creation of the game board, involved a lot of thoughtful but fun negotiation of ideas and decisions.
Marc’s board game design is inspired by his cat at home. Everything about it is cat-ty… from the fishy currencies to the names of the properties that the tokens land on! 😸😺
Marc’s always upbeat and engaged, every step of the process! Well done, Marc! 👍

Learning about basic typography and one-point perspective.
Marc worked on this piece so earnestly! So many things to love about this piece, the colour choice, patterns and textures in his name and especially his idea of Singapore being represented in outer space! 👍

Among Us characters will be making an appearance at Mid-Autumn this year! 😂
Marc’s proud of his lantern with Among Us and Minecraft characters! So unique that it is the one and only!

Finally, the day has come to submit these masterpieces for the Draw My Stamp Story art competition organised by Childen’s Museum Singapore.
So proud of each and every one of these kids! They created original and creative pieces of work with so much patience and perseverance and putting in their best effort.
There may be thousands of entries this year but they are all winners in my eyes! 😍

Weeks of enthusiasm and hardwork paying off with this model of his ideal bachelor’s pad… 😁
2-storeys compact home with super large and comfy recliners and a curved bar counter on the lower floor and comfy bed on the 2nd floor. Marc’s bachelor’s pad comes with pool and jacuzzi, deck chairs and bench 😎!
And he was super-excited about pasting a QR code at the corner too… So that he can rickroll others (if u know what I mean, you know… if you don’t, it doesn’t matter… 😉)
There is even a lift! Such luxury!
Meet the young architect and his creation! 🤗

Still so fascinated by HuskMitNavn’s works and decided to do another piece, inspired by his art. Marc decided to add a few more personal trademark! 😆 🤣
That’s what happens when you land in the Land of Nonsense Things uninvited! 🤣
Nice work, Marc! 😆

Introduced the works of HuskMitNavn, a prolific Danish illustrator, who cleverly merges 2D and 3D worlds onto a single piece of paper. He manipulates the paper in such that parts of his illustrations literally pops out of the page.
Such a good motivation to hone drawing skills, by emulating their favourite artists’ works!

A really persevering Marc, determined to get this drawing of a Minecraft right!
Sometimes we need to give it a break and revisit it again another time. That’s also a strategy in learning, isn’t it?

Ginger bread house with a ski slope in the background!
Love the fancy snow globe stand!
The Best Snow Globe, indeed!
Good work, Marc! 😀

Marc was so excited to started on his Minecraft block that had some really complicated spaces and was frustrated and disappointed that he couldn’t visualise it as well as he would like to…
So we spend the time to continue working on his basic visualisation skills…
I love it that I have ambitious students, but most times, there is no shortcut to mastery!
This quote has a lot of truth in it…
“10,000 hours to master your craft.
That’s 8 hours a day, 5 days a week,
44 weeks a year,
for 5 and half years!
Better get started.

Marc is so excited about his new found skill that he is already eyeing a more ambitious project…
For now, let’s start from the basics…

Next up, after learning about the art of Arcimboldo is learning about the art of the Fauvist artists. Fauvist artists emphasized pure and bold colours rather than realistic colours.
Marc was hesitant to paint in this style because he said that it would look ‘weird’. But he warmed up to it after some persuasion to give it a go…
He had a great idea of combining the colour scheme from his father’s day art work and the splattering effect used on his canvas painting for his clock! He was so proud that he thought of the combination himself! Unfortunately, I didn’t managed to capture his ‘Aha’- moment expression!
By the time he finished his painting, he fell in love with it and couldn’t wait to bring it home! ❤️

Learning about Arcimboldo and his imaginative portrait heads made of thematic objects.
This week’s challenge is to see new possibilities and identify suitable shapes and forms. Along the way, we strengthen finger muscles and patience…
The theme Marc chose was architecture and machines.
I thought his Arcimboldo-inspired piece looks really good, but Marc couldn’t reconcile the fact that ‘he’ looked so different with all the collaged images representing the different parts of his face.
Art (in this instance portraits), can be expressed in so many ways and styles. It is good to keep an open mind and be exposed to different ways of making art and different styles, even if it feels uncomfortable and unfamiliar.
Only through exposure, do we understand the risks that the great artists before us had taken, and we learn to let go of our preconceived ideas of what art is or should be, and push ourselves beyond our imagined boundaries snd comfort zone!

Having fun with continuous line drawing today. A new concept for Jamie and Marc and they caught on so well!
And from there, we moved on to the start on their new, exciting project.
Look out for the next few sessions!

Adding a few Among Us figures does so much to the whole composition!
Working on his final bits before fitting in the clock mechanism… Look at his lava pit and all the details in the rooms! 😍
Fitting in the numbers on his clock. Important to get it accurate, otherwise it will be confusing to read the time!
Took a few weeks to finish this, but the finished work looks so, so good and is really a testament to Marc’s enthusiasm, hardwork and patience!
And he says that interest in Among Us is waning, but I see this piece as immortalising memories of growing up and going through this phase and fad! 😁
